About the Artist

Facescapes is my main body of work consisting of large portraits painted in oil on canvas. I have been working on this series for over fifteen years The subjects are common folk that we see every-day, crossing guards, fishermen, market vendors, street people. Each one that I pass has so much to say. Intrigued, I capture their unique character with texture and color resulting in a powerful image on a large scale with an expressionist technique. On some of the large canvasses I zoom in on sections of the face creating an intense landscape with layers of translucent lines focusing attention on the beauty that time etches on the human face. I would like to share these images of the people I meet. Each portrait has a story of its own with un-spoken words. Most viewers relate these images to themselves as familiar yet not so familiar faces. Confronted with this ‘geography’ they are drawn into my experience of the subjects I paint.

My second body of work developed over the past ten years. Oil resist pastel drawings are full of life with texture and color. The surface texture created with hand tools gives the illusion of a woven fabric but is a drawing on paper. The subject matter is genre larger than life. Each piece of artwork is contained within a work of art itself. All of the frames are painted to compliment the subject.
